If you are adopting a child, you may be entitled to claim Statutory Adoption Pay and Leave for a period that will enable you to take time off work around the time the child is placed with you.
Leave can start:
- On the date the child starts living with the employee or up to 14 days before the expected placement date.
- The day the child is born or day after
- If possible 8 weeks’ notice to return to work following leave is recommended.
- Adoption leave lasts for up to 52 weeks.
Statutory Adoption Pay entitlement:
- 90% of your gross average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks.
- £172.48 a week or 90% of your gross average weekly earnings (whichever is lower) for the next 33 weeks.
- If possible 8 weeks’ notice to return to work following leave is recommended.
- Your company can claim 100% of the SAP paid to you plus 3% compensation if the company’s liability for Class 1 NIC is £45,000 of less.
